BCS government and Los Cabos hoteliers review cyclone and rain protocols

The State Secretariat and Civil Protection joined the hotel sector to fine-tune communication and response for the 2026 season.

State officials and hotel-sector representatives meet in Los Cabos to review cyclone protocols.

Officials from all three levels of government met in Los Cabos with members of the Hotel Sector Safety Committee to review the operating program for the current rainy and tropical cyclone season and fine-tune communication and response mechanisms in case of any contingency, the Baja California Sur government reported.

The meeting was led by Claudia Elena Meza de la Toba, acting General Secretary of Government, accompanied by Civil Protection Deputy Secretary Héctor Amparano Herrera and representatives of the Federal Electricity Commission and the municipality's tourism agencies. "Collaboration between institutions and the private sector is essential to strengthen prevention," Meza de la Toba said during the meeting.

The Pacific cyclone season officially runs from May 15 through November 30, according to CONAGUA forecasts. Baja California Sur currently has 166 temporary shelters ready statewide, a figure authorities plan to expand with support from the hotel sector to boost sheltering capacity in case of emergency.

  • Locate the temporary shelter closest to your hotel or home before an alert is issued.
  • Save 911 and the Los Cabos Civil Protection numbers on your phone.
  • Pack an emergency kit with documents, water, medication and a flashlight.
  • Follow the official accounts of Los Cabos City Hall and state Civil Protection for verified alerts.
  • Visitors should let hotel reception know where they'll be; evacuation protocols are activated jointly with the property.

Los Cabos hosts the state's largest hotel base and is a key destination during cyclone months, which makes the link between the government and hoteliers central to the orderly evacuation of guests and workers if a system threatens the area.
