Cabo San Lucas firefighters handled 425 emergencies in September, including 81 traffic accidents
The monthly report also lists 50 fires and 15 gas leaks in a month marked by Hurricane Polo.
The Cabo San Lucas Fire and Rescue Department responded to 425 emergency calls in September 2026, including 81 traffic accidents, the Los Cabos municipal government reported. The tally also includes 50 fires and 15 gas leaks.
According to the city, the calls fall into two groups: 202 pre-hospital services and 223 rescue and firefighting services. The month included support during Hurricane Polo and coverage of Independence Day civic events.
The breakdown
Pre-hospital services (202):
- 81 traffic accidents.
- 39 calls for sick people.
- 82 other services.
Rescue and firefighting (223):
- 50 fires.
- 15 gas leaks.
- 23 medical assists.
- 22 animals at risk.
- 113 other services.
What the numbers show
Traffic accidents were the single most common type of call, averaging almost three a day. With the remnants of Hurricane Rachel bringing rain to the southern part of the state in early October, road risk rises: wet pavement, debris on the road and runoff crossing streets.
The 15 gas leaks work out to one every two days. It is a household risk that can be reduced by regularly checking hoses, regulators and LP tank connections.
Practical tips
- Driving in the rain: slow down, turn on your headlights and never cross a flowing dip or arroyo.
- If you smell gas: do not flip switches or turn on appliances, open doors and windows, shut the tank valve and leave the home before calling.
- Emergencies: dial 911. City hall can be reached at (624) 146-7600.
The report covers only the Cabo San Lucas station; the announcement does not include figures for San José del Cabo or the outlying delegations.
