Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivities: 400-plus security staff and a free lineup through Sunday, Oct. 18

Glass, sharp objects, fireworks and alcohol are banned at entrances; León Cota Collins plaza hosts shows from 5 p.m.

Security personnel at the 2026 Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivities

The Los Cabos municipal government has deployed more than 400 security personnel for the 2026 Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivities, which began Friday, Oct. 16, at the Expoferia fairgrounds and León Cota Collins plaza. Authorities urged visitors to plan trips ahead because of heavier traffic on the Transpeninsular highway and warned that risky items will not be allowed in.

Who is providing security

According to the municipality, the operation brings together the Municipal Public Security Directorate, led by Navy Commander José Antonio Galicia Mixquititla, along with the Navy (Semar), the Defense Ministry, the National Guard and State Police. The National Guard will support traffic control on the Transpeninsular.

Glass bottles, sharp objects, fireworks and alcoholic beverages are not allowed at the entrances, the municipality said.

The fair goes on despite rain

After heavy rain Friday morning, municipal Civil Protection inspected the Expoferia — the Teatro del Pueblo stage, rides and vendor stands — and the Festivities Committee confirmed there was no major damage. "La indicación es clara, las fiestas van, se mantienen" (the instruction is clear: the festivities are on), said Francisco Cota Márquez, municipal director of Civil Protection and Risk Management, adding that weather is being checked every three hours.

Free cultural program

The Institute of Culture and Arts scheduled more than 15 performances by local talent from Oct. 16 to 18, starting at 5 p.m., free of charge:

  • Saturday, Oct. 17: Ballet Folclórico Manicari Pericú, Diocircus, FEM Powa, Forza, Batucada y Fuego, Paraíso Breakers Crew and Ramy Costich y su Grupo Imperdonable.
  • Sunday, Oct. 18: Ballet Folclórico Itotia Tepocatl, the HR de Jugglar circus-comedy show, Tanya Ugalde, Son de Cuba and The Baja Ensamble.

Face painting and children's activities are also planned.

Tips for attending

  • Leave early: the Transpeninsular between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is often congested in the afternoon, and fair traffic adds to it this weekend.
  • Consider public transit, a taxi or carpooling to avoid hunting for parking downtown.
  • Agree on a meeting point with children in case you get separated.
  • Bring water in plastic bottles and leave banned items at home to avoid delays at security checkpoints.
  • For questions, call the municipality at (624) 146 7600; for emergencies, dial 911.
