Classes suspended Wednesday in Ciudad Constitución over rain in Comondú
The State Civil Protection Council canceled school in both shifts; the rest of Baja California Sur's municipalities operate normally.
School was suspended on Wednesday, September 2, in Ciudad Constitución, the seat of the Comondú municipality, for both shifts, as a preventive measure after rain fell on Tuesday afternoon, the State Civil Protection Council of Baja California Sur reported.
The decision came at the request of Comondú's Municipal Civil Protection Council and, according to the state authority, "aims to safeguard the well-being of the school community" given the risk of flooding and unsafe commutes.
The suspension applies only to Ciudad Constitución. Civil Protection specified that the state's other municipalities —La Paz, Los Cabos, Loreto and Mulegé— are keeping normal school activities, and asked families not to assume cancellations elsewhere.
Ciudad Constitución sits in the Santo Domingo agricultural valley, a flat plain where water drains slowly and streets flood quickly during sustained rain, a factor that often complicates student travel by bus and on foot.
What this means for you: families with children in Ciudad Constitución schools should not send them to campus on Wednesday and should confirm the return to class directly with each school or through the official channels of the State Government and the Public Education Secretariat. Authorities urged residents to stay informed only through those channels and to avoid social-media rumors.
The notice falls within the rain and cyclone season, when Civil Protection keeps constant watch on weather conditions and may order further suspensions if the weather worsens. For any flooding or arroyo-current emergency, the help line is 911.
