Paving of Constitución street in La Paz begins with a 19.4-million-peso investment

The project covers the stretch between Municipio Libre and Rosaura Zapata, benefits the Francisco Villa and Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhoods and includes new water and drainage lines; drivers are asked to use alternate routes.

Hydraulic concrete paving work on a street in La Paz, Baja California Sur

The state Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Mobility and Environment Ministry (SEPUIMM) has begun the hydraulic-concrete paving of Constitución street in La Paz, along the stretch between Municipio Libre and Rosaura Zapata. The project, announced on August 13, benefits the Francisco Villa and Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhoods with an investment of 19.4 million pesos.

The work goes beyond paving. It includes renewing the drinking-water and sewage networks, installing solar LED streetlights and building curbs and sidewalks. Protective bollards will also be placed and landscaped areas set up.

"To improve mobility, strengthen urban services and create public spaces" is the goal of the intervention, according to Israel Soria Villa, head of the Directorate of Road Infrastructure and Urban Mobility. Renewing the water network before pouring the concrete lowers the risk that the street will have to be torn up again due to leaks soon after paving.

While the work lasts, the agency asked drivers to use routes other than Constitución street and to drive carefully in the area. Residents of Francisco Villa and Lázaro Cárdenas can plan different routes to get in and out of their neighborhoods, especially at rush hour.

The project adds to the repaving work the state government has pushed at various points in the state capital. To report water or drainage problems during the work, or potholes on nearby streets, residents can contact SEPUIMM and specify the neighborhood, street and stretch for follow-up.
