Los Cabos council appoints José Manuel Araiza Araiza as new municipal treasurer
The unanimous appointment in an extraordinary session follows the death of treasurer Rigoberto Arce Martínez on October 10.
The Los Cabos city council unanimously approved José Manuel Araiza Araiza as municipal treasurer during Extraordinary Public Session No. 29. The appointment fills the vacancy left by accountant Rigoberto Arce Martínez, who died on October 10 from health complications, according to the municipal government.
What was approved
According to the city, the appointment was made under applicable regulations and is meant to ensure financial and operational continuity. In the same session, the council approved unpaid leave for second councilwoman María Petra Juárez Maceda from October 13 to 19.
Participants included Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez and council members Celestino Atienzo Beltrán, Andrés Liceaga Gómez and José Manuel Larumbe Pineda. The late treasurer was remembered during the session, where it was said that honoring his legacy means guaranteeing order, financial discipline and transparency.
Why it matters to Los Cabos residents
The Treasury collects municipal revenue and manages public spending. In practice, it handles everyday procedures such as property tax (predial), fees, business licenses and fines, as well as payments to suppliers and the funding of public services.
The change comes in the last quarter of the year, when municipalities prepare their tax package and budget for the following year. A quick appointment keeps those processes from being left without a responsible head.
What changes for taxpayers
The city did not announce any changes to service windows, hours or payment procedures. Anyone with pending Treasury procedures can confirm requirements and hours directly with Los Cabos City Hall in San José del Cabo (Blvd. Mijares 1413, Centro) or by phone at (624) 146 7600.
Next step
The second councilwoman's leave ends on October 19. Council sessions are public, and their resolutions are published through the city's official channels.
