Los Cabos: no major damage after the rains; crews clear the Transpeninsular in San José del Cabo

Municipal Civil Protection keeps permanent monitoring and expects more rain in the next 24 hours as Public Works removes washed-out material from roads.

Public Works machinery clears washed-out material from a San José del Cabo road after the rains

Los Cabos closed September 3 with no major damage or harm to residents after the rains, though with standing water at several points and intermittent power outages, municipal Civil Protection reported. The agency expects rainfall to continue over the next 24 hours as storm cores move in, and is keeping preventive monitoring in place.

"Preventive monitoring and coordination among the operational areas of the XV City Council are being maintained," said Francisco Cota Márquez, municipal director of Civil Protection, who urged residents to rely only on official channels and to avoid crossing arroyos or approaching areas with flooding or currents.

In parallel, the General Directorate of Public Works deployed heavy machinery to clear and repair damaged roads in San José del Cabo. The work focused on the Transpeninsular highway near the Guaymitas neighborhood, Forjadores street, Gandhi boulevard and the San José Viejo district, where sand and material dragged by the rain were removed.

The director general of Public Works and Human Settlements, Christopher Enríquez González, said crews on the Transpeninsular were removing "sand and material dragged by the rainfall" to reopen traffic. The Transpeninsular is the road linking San José del Cabo with Cabo San Lucas and the rest of the tourist corridor, so clearing it is key to daily travel.

The city urged drivers to slow down, obey signage and drive carefully in the areas where machinery is working. For any emergency, Los Cabos Civil Protection set up the number (624) 146-7600, available during the rain operation.
