Civil Protection watches a storm cluster over the Gulf of California, urges people to avoid streambeds

Los Cabos Civil Protection is keeping a permanent watch over a fast-developing storm cluster in the Gulf of California that could bring rain to southern Baja California Sur in the coming hours. The advisory covers the municipality of Los Cabos and the La Ribera, Los Barriles and Santiago districts, with partly cloudy to overcast skies and the potential for rainfall that may be locally heavier than forecast.

The municipal authority is asking residents not to cross streambeds or fords during rain, to take extra care with lightning and wind gusts, and to secure objects that could be blown away. It also recommends staying informed through the city's official channels.

The municipal emergency line is (624) 146-7600, where residents can report flooding, fallen trees or people at risk. Crossing a running streambed is the leading cause of emergencies during the region's rainy season, so authorities stress waiting until the water level drops.

This monitoring is separate from Tropical Storm Iselle. According to the National Meteorological Service, Iselle is moving away from the country and on Thursday, August 27, it would sit about 1,330 kilometers west-southwest of Punta Eugenia, with sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour. Its west-northwest track keeps it far from Mexican territory, and no rain, wind or high surf is expected directly tied to its circulation.

At the state level, the State Civil Protection Committee met to track weather conditions and reported no damage from the recent rain and strong winds.

As a precaution for cyclone season, it helps to keep a basic kit with water, a flashlight, documents in a waterproof bag and medicine, to know the nearest temporary shelter and to save emergency numbers. The Pacific season runs through November.
