Padre Kino boulevard reopens in La Paz on Friday after 11.5-million-peso overhaul

The stretch between Melchor Ocampo and 16 de Septiembre reopens at 11:00 a.m. after a full rebuild of pavement, water lines and street lighting.

La Paz's Padre Kino boulevard reopens to traffic this Friday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. along the stretch between Melchor Ocampo and 16 de Septiembre, after the completion of a modernization project worth 11.5 million pesos, the state's Secretariat of Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Mobility, Environment and Natural Resources (SEPUIMM) announced.

Israel Soria Villa, director of Road Infrastructure and Urban Mobility, said the works included high-resistance hydraulic concrete paving, replacement of the drinking-water and sewage networks, construction of sidewalks and curbs, new road signage and rehabilitation of street lighting. The intervention responds, he said, to instructions from Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío to prioritize the capital's busiest corridors.

Padre Kino is one of the main arteries connecting downtown with the northern and eastern neighborhoods, and its rehabilitation was announced earlier this year as part of a state package for the boulevard's reconstruction totaling more than 11.28 million pesos. This week's reopening restores traffic flow during peak hours.

Replacing the water and drainage pipes under the roadbed aims to avoid re-intervening the same street a few years later — a common problem when only the asphalt surface is patched without renewing buried utilities. As of this bulletin, no additional closures on adjacent stretches of the boulevard have been announced.
