More than 190,000 students in Baja California Sur return to class this Monday across all five municipalities

The school year begins at 8:00 a.m. on August 31 with an official ceremony at the Hugo César Piñeda Chacón elementary school in the Camino Real neighborhood of La Paz.

Elementary students enter school at the start of the academic year in Baja California Sur

More than 190,000 basic and upper-secondary education students in Baja California Sur return to the classroom on Monday, August 31, across the state's five municipalities: La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Loreto and Mulegé. The state Public Education Secretariat announced the start in line with the official school calendar.

The return includes more than 150,000 students in basic education —preschool, elementary and middle school— and more than 42,000 high school students. The official kickoff takes place at 8:00 a.m. at the "Hugo César Piñeda Chacón" Elementary School, located in the Camino Real neighborhood in the city of La Paz.

The state agency, headed by Alicia Meza Osuna, reported an investment of around 1.4 billion pesos in educational infrastructure during the current administration, directed to the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of school buildings in different regions of the state.

Among the indicators presented, officials placed the completion rate in basic education at 99.5 percent. At the higher-education level, enrollment rose from 24,000 to 30,000 students, a 22 percent increase, of which 75 percent study at public institutions and 25 percent at private ones.

Families in Baja California Sur should keep in mind that entry times can vary between schools and shifts, so it is advisable to confirm the access time and the list of supplies directly with each school. The return to class usually increases traffic around school zones during the first week, especially at entrances to elementary and middle schools, where leaving early helps.

Any enrollment procedure, school transfer or academic record request is handled through the state Public Education Secretariat or the office of the corresponding school. Education authorities ask parents and guardians to stay attentive to each school's official notices for the rest of the school-year calendar.
