Baja California Sur steps up dengue response in Comondú and Los Cabos
State health officials add crews, fogging units and rapid tests in the two municipalities with active transmission.
Baja California Sur's Health Department has expanded its fight against dengue in Comondú and Los Cabos, the two municipalities in the state with active transmission of the virus. With federal support, the effort adds more health crews, extra fogging units and supplementary insecticide.
According to the state government, more than 67,000 hectares have been fogged across all five municipalities so far in 2026. Larval-control crews have also visited more than 87,000 homes.
What is changing
State Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro coordinated the measures with José Alejandro Ávalos Bracho, director general of the federal disease-prevention center CENAPRECE. The state has purchased rapid diagnostic tests for IMSS-Bienestar, ISSSTE and IMSS clinics.
The state health-risk agency COEPRIS is inspecting tire shops and similar businesses, where old tires collect water and breed mosquitoes. Officials also launched remote follow-up for confirmed patients, and all medical providers must report probable and confirmed cases.
Fogging in Los Cabos neighborhoods
The Los Cabos city government said it fogged the Centro neighborhood of San José del Cabo and La Ribera. The work will extend to Miraflores, Caduaño and Santiago, according to the municipality.
What you can do at home
Health authorities stress that removing mosquito breeding sites at home is the most effective prevention. After the rainy season, standing water in yards is the main risk.
- Empty buckets, tubs and plant pots; cover water tanks and drums.
- Throw away tires, bottles and anything that holds water.
- Change water in pet bowls and vases every few days.
- If you have a high fever, headache, joint pain or pain behind the eyes, see a doctor and avoid self-medicating.
Letting larval-control crews into your home when they visit helps break the chain of infection for the whole neighborhood.
