Los Cabos patches the Transpeninsular and repairs streets in Mesa Colorada, Los Cangrejos, Jacarandas and Caribe

The city reported work on October 23 along the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, street repairs in four neighborhoods, and fumigation in Centro and La Ribera.

Municipal crew patching potholes on the Transpeninsular highway in Los Cabos

The Los Cabos city government stepped up pothole repairs on the Transpeninsular highway, on the stretch linking Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, and is working on damaged streets in the Mesa Colorada, Los Cangrejos, Jacarandas and Caribe neighborhoods, the municipality reported on Friday, October 23. Drivers in those areas should expect crews and heavy equipment on the road.

According to the city, the highway work is part of its Pothole Program, run by the Public Works and Human Settlements Department headed by Christopher Enríquez González. The city did not give kilometer markers, work hours or a completion date.

What is being done in each Cabo San Lucas neighborhood

The Public Services office in Cabo San Lucas reported the following work:

  • Mesa Colorada: rebuilding Calle 8 at its intersection with Misión Santo Tomás, using a backhoe and dump trucks.
  • Los Cangrejos: removing silt from Paseo Pacífico street with heavy machinery.
  • Jacarandas: repairing the road surface with a backhoe and dump truck.
  • Caribe: grading and leveling streets with a motor grader.

Silt removal in Los Cangrejos matters because mud and sand washed down by tropical-storm rains tend to settle on unpaved streets and on the slopes leading to the arroyos.

San José del Cabo and rural communities

The city also reported street repairs in the Buenos Aires neighborhood and fumigation in Centro and La Ribera as a preventive measure. It plans to extend the work to Miraflores, Caduaño and Santiago.

In Miraflores, the local municipal delegation, led by María Aremy García García, cleaned the streets around the Profesora María Meme Ojeda Collins public plaza in the town center.

What to do if you live or drive in these areas

  • On the road: slow down near work crews on the Transpeninsular and follow posted signs; traffic on the corridor, including cars, trucks and staff shuttles, is heavy at rush hour.
  • To report a pothole or damaged street: call the city at (624) 146 7600 or email presidencia@loscabos.gob.mx.
  • If your neighborhood is fumigated: spraying is only part of mosquito control. Empty buckets, tires and any containers that hold water, which is where the mosquito that spreads dengue breeds. This week the state Health Department reported active dengue transmission in Ciudad Constitución, in Comondú.
