Officials review progress on the new IMSS Regional Hospital in Los Cabos, with 256 beds
The city and IMSS evaluated steps for operation and access alternatives to the site.
Municipal and IMSS officials reviewed progress on the new Regional Hospital in Los Cabos, which will have 256 beds and be built and operated by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the city government reported. The tour focused on the complementary actions needed for its operation.
Participants included Alberto Rentería Santana, general secretary of the 15th City Council; fifth councilman Jesús Alberto Alvarado Aragón; José Víctor Acosta García, of the IMSS Administrative Services Office; and Roberto Sidonio Bernal, IMSS Planning and Construction project lead.
Topics addressed included access alternatives to the hospital and coordination among the federal, state and municipal governments to bring it into service. Authorities did not specify the investment amount or an estimated opening date.
A 256-bed hospital would significantly expand second-level care in a region whose population is growing due to tourism and labor migration, and could reduce trips to other cities for specialized services.
While construction is completed, IMSS beneficiaries in the area can use the family medicine units in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo or call the Institute's national line. Follow-up on progress will continue at upcoming meetings.
