San José del Cabo Fire Department opens enrollment for its eighth academy class: requirements and sign-up
Training starts December 2, runs 10 months, and requires applicants to be at least 17 and a half with high school completed or in progress.
The San José del Cabo Fire Department has opened applications for the eighth class of its Firefighter Academy. Training begins Wednesday, December 2, lasts 10 months and is aimed at people who want professional emergency-response training in Los Cabos.
Fire Chief Omar Barreras Núñez outlined the requirements and selection process. Pre-registration is done online through a form published by the Los Cabos city government.
Requirements
- Be at least 17 years and six months old when training begins.
- Have completed high school (preparatoria) or be currently enrolled.
- Be in good physical health.
- Pass a psychometric assessment.
Selection process
According to the department, selection has three stages: a psychometric evaluation, a physical fitness test and a firefighting skills assessment. Only applicants who pass all three will join the academy.
Pre-register at https://forms.gle/FuojMoTvGuto5qaq7. For questions, the city government can be reached at (624) 146-7600.
Before you apply
The call does not list a closing date, so it is wise to pre-register soon: training starts in just over a month. Keep proof of high school studies handy, either a diploma or a certificate showing current enrollment.
If you plan to take the fitness test, start building endurance and strength now, since the firefighting skills assessment is also physically demanding. A medical checkup beforehand can confirm you meet the good-health requirement.
With 10 months of training, the academy would wrap up around fall 2027, so plan work or school commitments ahead. The San José del Cabo department covers a fast-growing area with a June-to-November rain and hurricane season, which makes training new personnel especially important.
