Free breast exams in Los Cabos at Altamira and Vista Hermosa clinics, Monday through Friday
The Municipal Health Institute offers the service from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
The Los Cabos Municipal Health Institute is offering free clinical breast exams at two medical units: Altamira in Cabo San Lucas and Vista Hermosa in San José del Cabo. Both are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the city government announced on October 27.
The campaign runs under the slogan "¡No lo dejes para después!" (Don't put it off!) and, according to the city, aims to bring preventive care closer to residents and promote a culture of self-care.
Where to go
- Cabo San Lucas: Unidad Médica Altamira, on Paseo Cabo San Lucas, across from Plaza Punto Portales.
- San José del Cabo: Unidad Médica Vista Hermosa, in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood.
The extended 8:00 p.m. closing time makes it possible to go after work, which helps in a municipality where many residents work shifts in the tourism sector.
What a clinical exam is, and what it is not
A clinical breast exam is performed by a health professional by hand, checking for lumps, skin or nipple changes and swollen lymph nodes. It does not replace a mammogram, which is an imaging test; if staff find something unusual, patients are typically referred for further testing.
The city bulletin does not say whether an appointment is needed or which documents to bring. Before going, it is a good idea to confirm by calling city hall at (624) 146-7600.
Signs not to wait on
Seek care promptly, campaign or not, if you notice any of these changes:
- A lump or hardening in the breast or armpit.
- Skin that looks like orange peel, dimpling or redness.
- Nipple discharge or a nipple that turns inward.
- A change in the size or shape of a breast.
The campaign is part of October's breast cancer awareness activities. According to the city, Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez directed staff to strengthen preventive health so more women can access timely, free services.
