Recycling drop-off in Los Cabos: Wednesday the 28th in Cabo San Lucas, Friday the 30th in San José del Cabo
Plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, cans, Tetra Pak, expired medicine, batteries and appliances will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Los Cabos municipal government will hold two recyclables collection drives this week: Wednesday, October 28, at Plaza León Cota Collins in Cabo San Lucas, and Friday, October 30, at the INDEM municipal sports grounds in San José del Cabo. Both run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The drives are organized by the General Directorate of Ecology and Environment through its Environmental Education, Outreach and Promotion office, the administration of Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez said.
What you can bring
According to the city, the drives will accept:
- Plastic, paper and cardboard.
- Metals: aluminum and cans.
- Glass and Tetra Pak cartons.
- Expired medicine and batteries.
- Household appliances.
The city asked residents to bring materials already sorted, clean and dry to make processing easier.
What will NOT be accepted
Motor oil, printer toner, light bulbs and lamps will not be taken. Keep those items separate from what you bring to the drive.
How to prepare
- Rinse and drain bottles, cans and Tetra Pak cartons; food or drink residue contaminates the rest of the batch.
- Flatten boxes and containers so they take up less room in your car.
- Sort by type in separate bags or boxes: paper and cardboard, plastics, glass.
- Store batteries in a closed jar or bag, away from household trash.
- Keep expired medicine in its packaging, ideally inside a bag.
Why it matters in Los Cabos
Batteries and expired medicine are among the items most worth keeping out of regular trash, since they can end up in the landfill, vacant lots or arroyos. A scheduled drop-off at a fixed location is one of the few free ways to dispose of them properly.
The city said the goal is to encourage waste separation and proper final disposal, moving toward a cleaner and more sustainable municipality. For questions, the city hall phone number is (624) 146-7600.
