Dengue fever clinic to open at Ciudad Constitución General Hospital
State health officials will also extend weekend hours at Comondú's urban health center to 12 hours.
The Baja California Sur government will open a clinic this week at the General Hospital in Ciudad Constitución, seat of Comondú municipality, to treat people with fever and dengue-related symptoms. The city's urban health center will also offer 12-hour service on Saturdays and Sundays.
State Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro announced the plan at a meeting with CENAPRECE director Alejandro Ávalos Bracho, General Hospital director Alejandro Félix, IMSS Bienestar regional coordinator Alfredo Casimiro and Comondú Mayor Roberto Pantoja Castro.
What the plan includes
According to the Health Department, medical and nursing staff will be hired immediately to run the clinic, which will provide monitoring and supportive treatment. The state will distribute rapid dengue tests to IMSS Bienestar, IMSS and ISSSTE, and send additional fumigation units and insecticide.
The Comondú municipal government will begin cleanup drives to remove containers where mosquitoes breed. Officials said fumigation reduces adult mosquitoes, while eliminating standing water stops reproduction at the source.
"No existe un medicamento específico para curar el dengue" ("There is no specific medicine to cure dengue"), Guluarte Castro said.
What to do if you have a fever
If you have a high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes or muscle and joint pain, go to a health facility and avoid self-medicating. Federal health guidance advises against aspirin and ibuprofen when dengue is suspected because they can increase bleeding risk.
At home, check buckets, tires, uncovered water tanks, pet bowls and vases weekly, and cover or empty anything that holds water. Los Cabos also held a cleanup drive in Cabo San Lucas' López Obrador neighborhood as part of prevention efforts in the south of the state.
