Copa Presidente fishing tournament in Cabo San Lucas: registration Oct. 31, start Nov. 1
The eighth edition offers more than 1 million pesos in prizes, expects 60 teams and targets dorado as its main species.
The eighth edition of the "Copa Presidente" sport fishing tournament will be held in Cabo San Lucas, with team registration on Saturday, October 31, and the official start on Sunday, November 1. The Los Cabos city government said the prize pool tops 1 million pesos and that 60 Mexican and international teams are expected to compete.
Dorado (mahi-mahi) will be the main target species, with tuna and wahoo also eligible. The tournament will close the program of the 2026 Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festivities.
Preparations were reviewed at a working meeting between Tadeo Ramírez García, acting head of the Social Development Department, and Juan Javier García, municipal director of Fisheries and Aquaculture, according to the city government.
Fifth municipal tournament of the year
According to the city, Los Cabos has already hosted four sport fishing tournaments in 2026, held in La Ribera, Buenavista, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The Copa Presidente will be the fifth of the year and the last on the calendar.
Ramírez García said these tournaments strengthen tourism and local commerce, and bring income to families tied to fishing and to the services offered during the events, such as lodging, food and boat charters.
