Dirt road work near Fernando Burgoin Montaño elementary school in San José del Cabo

The Los Cabos municipal government graded and filled the dirt streets around Fernando Burgoin Montaño Elementary School in the Ampliación Zacatal neighborhood of San José del Cabo. The work followed a request from parents and school administrators about mobility conditions in the school zone.

According to the municipality, crews first inspected the area and then carried out maintenance on the unpaved roads, grading the surface and adding fill material.

Who is involved

  • Directorate of Public Works and Human Settlements.
  • Municipal Directorate of Education.
  • Municipal Directorate of Public Services.

The municipality said it will continue to follow up on the case filed by the school community.

Why it matters

In newer neighborhoods of San José del Cabo such as Ampliación Zacatal, many streets remain unpaved. Seasonal rains leave potholes, puddles and mud that make it harder to reach school on foot or by car, especially at drop-off and pick-up times.

Grading and filling is maintenance, not paving, so it may need to be repeated after heavy rain. The municipality issued a preventive notice for rain and wind on October 25.

How to request repairs

If a road near a school in your neighborhood is in poor condition, file the request through the parents' committee or school administration so it becomes a formal case that can be routed to Public Works and the Education Directorate. You can also report it at your local delegación or subdelegación.
