Rehabilitated park with playground equipment and lighting in a La Paz neighborhood

The La Paz city government rehabilitated 16 parks in city neighborhoods, El Centenario and Chametla with an investment of 625,000 pesos, it reported on Oct. 15. The work was handled by the General Directorate of Comprehensive City Management (Dirección General de Gestión Integral de la Ciudad).

According to its head, Kenia Cervantes Villegas, the projects target public spaces that had been abandoned or had deteriorated.

Parks included

The parks are in the Tutus, 3 de Mayo, Altamira, Palmar III, Lagunitas, Santa María, Península Sur, El Progreso, Antares, Misiones, Agua Clara, Villas de California, Valle del Mezquite and Revolución neighborhoods, plus El Centenario and Chametla.

What was done

The work includes new and improved lighting, walkways and benches, playground repairs, cleanup, planting, curb and ramp painting, and perimeter fencing.

Some parks received extra work. Gazebos were built in the El Centenario and Palmar III parks, a roof was installed in Lagunitas, and the soccer field in Misiones received maintenance and protective barriers.

Why it matters

With 625,000 pesos spread across 16 sites, the average is about 39,000 pesos per park, a figure geared toward maintenance and targeted upgrades rather than new construction. Lighting lets residents use the parks after dark, when the city's heat eases.

The list goes beyond the urban core: it includes El Centenario and Chametla, along the Transpeninsular Highway toward Ciudad Constitución, where one of the two gazebos was also built.

How to report problems

If you see broken lights, damaged playground equipment or piled-up trash in a neighborhood park, you can report it to the La Paz city government through its citizen service channels or at the nearest delegación or subdelegación office. A report with a photo and exact location speeds up the response.
