La Paz Tourist Police step up patrols on the boardwalk and downtown under the Safe Summer 2026 operation
The deployment aims to support tourists and residents in the busiest areas during the summer holidays.
The La Paz Directorate of Public Safety and Preventive Police stepped up patrols on the city's boardwalk (malecón) and downtown starting August 10, 2026, through its Tourist Police unit, as part of the Safe Summer 2026 operation. The reinforcement will remain in place throughout the summer holiday period.
According to the municipal agency, officers are carrying out foot patrols and patrols in police units at the busiest spots. Beyond the boardwalk and downtown, coverage includes plazas, shopping centers and ATMs.
The work is not limited to surveillance: the force said personnel also provide a visible presence, guidance and direct assistance to tourists visiting the Baja California Sur capital during the high season.
The malecón is La Paz's main tourist and leisure corridor, with a heavy concentration of shops, restaurants and visitors in the late afternoon, when activity picks up. That is why the police presence is focused on that stretch and on the city's downtown core.
As a practical guide for anyone who needs it: in any emergency or crime in progress, the emergency number is 911, which operates 24 hours across the state. For non-urgent reports, residents can approach the officers patrolling the area or the security posts in the downtown core.
Each summer La Paz draws a significant flow of domestic visitors attracted by its beaches and its boardwalk, which is why the city concentrates security resources in those areas during July and August.
