Los Cabos offers free dog and cat sterilization in Vista Hermosa on August 20 and 27

The clinics take place in San José del Cabo; pets must arrive after an eight-hour fast, and pregnant or in-heat females are not treated.

Free dog and cat sterilization campaign in Los Cabos

The Los Cabos Municipal Health Institute will hold free dog and cat sterilization clinics on August 20 and 27 in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood, block 15, in San José del Cabo. The service is free and part of the municipality's ongoing animal welfare campaigns.

For a pet to be operated on, it must arrive after a minimum eight-hour fast, with no food or liquids. Pregnant, nursing or in-heat females are not sterilized because of the surgical risks under those conditions.

The agency, led by Juan Carlos Costich Pérez, said sterilization "contribuye a prevenir la reproducción no planificada, disminuir el abandono de perros y gatos" (helps prevent unplanned breeding and reduce the abandonment of dogs and cats) and eases overpopulation in neighborhoods. It also helps lower the risk of certain illnesses in the animals.

Those who want to schedule or ask questions can call (624) 146-7600 or email presidencia@loscabos.gob.mx. It is advisable to confirm the clinic hours before going, since care is usually on a first-come basis.

On surgery day, bring the pet on a leash or in a carrier, a clean blanket for the trip home and water for after the procedure. Following sterilization, the animal needs rest, a quiet place and monitoring of the incision over the next few days.
