Los Cabos opens a recyclables collection point in San José del Cabo on August 28

The Los Cabos city government will set up a recyclables collection point on Friday, August 28, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the parking lot of the Rodrigo Aragón Ceseña Sports Complex in San José del Cabo. Admission is free and any resident may drop off materials during those hours.

The drive, organized by the Municipal Directorate of Environmental Education, Outreach and Promotion, will accept plastics, paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, glass containers, cartons (tetrapak) and expired medicines. The goal is to provide a safe point to sort these materials instead of mixing them with regular trash or leaving them on the street.

Sorting at home is key to making the collection work: rinse and dry containers, crush bottles and cans to save space, and bundle clean cardboard and paper. Expired medicines deserve separate care, because flushing them or tossing them in the trash pollutes water and soil; bringing them to drives like this allows proper disposal.

These campaigns matter during the rainy season, when waste left in streets and vacant lots gets swept into arroyos and helps clog channels and storm drains. Clearing unused appliances and containers from the home also cuts down on the mosquito breeding sites that form in vessels holding stagnant water.

Anyone who cannot attend on August 28 can start sorting recyclables at home now and watch for the next dates the city announces, since these drives are usually repeated at different points in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas throughout the year.
