La Candelaria and Los Pozos expected to get electricity by late December

The project tops 38 million pesos in combined funding from the Los Cabos city government, the state and CFE.

The rural communities of La Candelaria and Los Pozos, outside Cabo San Lucas, are expected to have electric service by the end of December 2026, according to the Los Cabos municipal government. The electrification project is moving forward with more than 38 million pesos jointly funded by the city, the Baja California Sur state government and Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).

According to the city, crews with specialized equipment are installing power poles at pre-marked points along the road to both communities. These are settlements that have gone without this basic service for years.

Estimated completion date

Social Development director general Carlos Castro Ceseña inspected the work alongside La Candelaria deputy delegate Christian Márquez Núñez. "The project is estimated to be delivered at the end of December this year," Castro Ceseña said, adding that it will benefit hundreds of families.

During the visit, residents of Los Pozos and La Candelaria asked how to access the service and what requirements they must meet. The city said they received guidance and follow-up on their requests.

What it means for the backcountry

La Candelaria is a mountain community in the municipality of Los Cabos, known as a rural tourism destination. A grid connection makes it possible to keep food and medicine refrigerated, pump water and run work tools without depending on fuel.

If you live in these communities

  • Ask about your contract: a line passing your house does not mean automatic service. Each home must sign up with CFE and have adequate interior wiring.
  • Contact the sub-delegation: the city is channeling residents' questions through the Social Development office and the La Candelaria sub-delegation.
  • City hall: (624) 146-7600.

The completion date is the city's estimate; the announcement does not break down each government's contribution or the exact number of homes to be connected.
