Electrification begins in Cabo San Lucas' Los Mezquites neighborhood with over 4 million pesos

The first phase will bring power lines to more than 100 families; city officials will return for a second meeting with residents.

Start of electrification works in the Los Mezquites neighborhood, Cabo San Lucas

The Los Cabos municipal government has begun electrification works in the Los Mezquites neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas, investing more than 4 million pesos from the federal Social Infrastructure Contributions Fund (FAIS). The first phase will benefit more than 100 families, the city said on October 8, 2026.

Part of a larger expansion

According to the municipality, its set of power-grid expansion projects is the largest investment of its kind in 30 years. Besides Los Mezquites, it includes work in La Candelaria, Los Pozos, El Taste, La Ballena phases 1 and 2, and Calle 6 in San José del Cabo.

Together, the city says, these projects reach more than 20,000 families across the municipality.

Who is in charge

The kickoff was led by Carlos Castro Ceseña, director general of Social Development, and Tadeo Ramírez García, municipal director of Investment and Federal and State Programs, under Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez's administration.

Officials agreed to return for a second visit to share more details and gather residents. No completion date has been announced.

What FAIS is

FAIS is a federal fund municipalities receive through Ramo 33. By law it can only finance basic infrastructure in areas with social backwardness or poverty: drinking water, drainage, electrification, urban development and housing improvements. That is why these projects focus on neighborhoods being regularized or on the urban fringe.

What residents should do

  • Attend the follow-up meeting announced by the city, where scope and next steps will be explained.
  • Get your property papers in order, such as proof of possession or title, plus official ID. Once the grid is ready, each home must contract service with CFE, which typically requests these documents.
  • Do not make illegal hookups while work is underway; it is against the law and endangers you and your neighbors.
  • For questions, contact the municipal Social Development office.
