Los Cabos and CFE agree on a faster route for electrical outage reports
The city government and Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission set up joint follow-up of reports and promoted the (624) 146-7600 line and the CFE Contigo app for residents.
The Los Cabos government and Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) established a joint work plan to speed up how outage reports are handled and to follow up on power supply failures across the municipality. The agreement, announced on August 12, aims to shorten response times when a resident reports a blackout or a voltage fluctuation.
The meeting was attended by José Manuel Larumbe Pineda, acting mayor and first council member; Juan Carlos Butterfield Velázquez, CFE superintendent for the Los Cabos zone; and René Peralta Landín, head of customer service for CFE in the municipality. The parties agreed to integrate digital tools and share information to track each report.
The stated goal was to "guarantee a more efficient service and direct attention to the population," according to the officials, who promoted the CFE Contigo app as a way to make payments, file failure reports and receive personalized service from a mobile phone.
For residents, this means three concrete channels to report an electrical problem in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas: the (624) 146-7600 service line, the CFE Contigo app, and the commission's national 071 number. It helps to keep at hand the service number printed on the electricity bill and the exact address with neighborhood, which speeds up locating the fault.
The announcement comes during peak heat and rainy season, when energy demand rises due to air conditioning and weather events can bring down power lines. Reporting a failure immediately, rather than waiting for the whole block to do so, helps CFE size up the outage and dispatch crews faster.
